Humans often tend to work under the influence of emotions.
It is increasingly hard to contain emotions within and speak or think with clarity because emotions cloud the thinking process, making you do wild things.
People who do not keep their emotions in check are the ones who are the most negatively affected. Petty things make you angry, and under this influence, you lash out at others.
Similarly, things can make you cry at times, and instead of gathering yourself, you allow yourself to become weak, and others are witnessing this withdrawal of yours.
So, how can you work on these emotions?
How can you NOT let them affect you?
It is just the game of your mind.
How much effort you are willing to put, which will be equivalent to how much loss your emotions had made you go through.
In other words, if you want to get rid of how your feelings make you behave, only then will you strive to work on it.
Otherwise, you may find solace in your emotions, keep yourself in a box, destroy your relationships, and never be able to work on yourself.
To help you get through it, here are five incredibly effective ways to keep your emotions in check.
1. Start Meditating to Gather Your Emotions and Contain Your Thoughts
When you are going through a rough patch, you are presumably bottling up many emotions inside of you as most people choose to remain silent than to open up to other people, or even the close ones because you think it is hard to explain what you are feeling.
However, there is a downside to this. Once your bottle is full of all the emotional trash, you will burst open because that is how humans work.
It won’t be long before you blow like a grenade; your emotions are all over the place, destroying your composure, and before you know, the damage could have been already done.
To prevent this from happening, you need to start meditating or take a break to relax your mind. You will have enough time to think it through.
You can eliminate all the negative thoughts and work on the ones that can benefit you.
This can only happen when you align your thoughts and emotions by relaxing your mind and body.
2. Be Mindful of Where you are Draining Yourself and Your Emotions
Stay away from situations that cost you your mental peace and ruin you emotionally.
For instance, you should stay away from abusive people, people who like to trigger you, people who do everything in their power to make you feel bad.
The best you can do in this regard is to stay away from them than to waste your calories fighting them.
There is no point in emotionally draining yourself over what they said to you or how they made you feel. Before they can do anything to you, just maintain your distance.
This significantly helps you in keeping your calm and maintaining your composure before they emotionally wreck you.
3. Surround Yourself with Emotionally Strong, Passionate, Grateful, and Open-minded People
What comes next when you stay away from narcissistic psychopaths?
You go and enjoy the company of people who are optimistic, energetic, emotionally stable, and are ready to take on this world.
This gives you a significant boost of positive energy because people have the power to make or break you, and this is in your hands, choose to sit with the ones who make you or break you.
When you choose the right gathering, you are giving yourself a chance to heal, an opportunity to begin again, a chance to see life through the lens of new and positive people because your gathering has a massive influence on you, so why not make the most of it?
4. You Must Understand That What you are Feeling is Temporary, and Emotions are Fleeting
Emotions are never meant to last, just how your tipsy period does not last forever.
For humans, functioning under the influence of intense emotions is pretty similar to performing and doing stupid things under the influence of alcohol or potent drugs.
All of this eventually makes your regret later on whatever you did under the influence of these things.
When you let your emotions take over you, there are high chances that only you are destroying yourself, but you are also killing others around you.
If your boss ruined your day, and if you are still under its influence, you will go home and emotionally drain your family too.
Or, if you went through a heartbreak, you will again affect the ones living with you.
Therefore, try your best to leave your emotions behind when you are dealing with your family.
Work on building a stronger relationship with the ones you love, so you can at least enjoy a nice cup of tea after you have had a bad day at work.
5. Learn to Develop Resistance Against Emotions Instead of Wreaking a Havoc
Start with deep breaths.
Every time you find yourself giving in to your emotions, stop, sit, count till three, and take deep breaths.
Do not let your emotions consume you. Stop those tears from falling, and stop that anger from showing.
You are much more than what your emotions make you do.
Neither are you weak, nor are you a bully? You just need to keep yourself calm whenever you think the feelings are getting the best of you.
Even though it may take a whole lot of energy before you genuinely master masking your emotions, you will be grateful and so proud of yourself in the long run after you have conquered your feelings.
Your emotions can either build you and your relationships or destroy you.
It depends on where you incline your energy to feel and how you use it to benefit yourself and others around you.
